Casinos are a big source of revenue for tourism; Las Vegas for example has more than 40 million visitors each year.
Analysts say that the nation is banking on making casinos legal to further boost tourism in the country and become a major player in the regional casino development.
Gambling has been outlawed in Thailand for over 80 years with the exception of the state-run lottery and horse race betting at the Bangkok Turf Club.
A lecturer in economics at Dhurakij Pandit University Visanu Vongsinsirikul said he believes the government is likely to make a decision to make casinos legal following the next general election.
The next elections are anticipated to take place in late 2018 so still a little wait yet.
Visanu said, “I’m quite sure Thailand will have a legal casino, they will have in the near future.”
