A Chinese tourist was injured early on Thursday morning after a rental car she was travelling in being driven by her friend crashed head on with an SUV on a Phuket road after the driver drove on the wrong side of the road.

Police stated that the accident happened at 5.59am on the Choeng Thalang Road in Thaland districts Tambon Thepkasatree.

Jang Su Ting, 32, was injured in the accident and taken to hospital.

The car she was travelling in with her three friends was rented from the airport where the two men and two women had just flown in to and collided head on with local resident Thinida Poksakul’s SUV on a bend in the road.

The driver apparently moved onto the wrong side of the road momentarily forgetting the traffic directions here in Thailand and Thinida said she did not see the oncoming car in time to react before the accident.

Police said that Jang Su Ting was the only person injured in the accident and all passengers were wearing their seatbelts.
