Officials are currently investigating if the recently caught crocodile that was captured in Phuket was owned by an individual or comes from the wild.
The crocodile was apprehended by wildlife experts after it was spotted swimming off of Bangtao Beach on August 25.
The giant reptile which weighs 200-kiograms has refused to eat any of the food provided for it by wildlife officials.
The Phuket governor visited the rehabilitation pond in Thalang were the croc is currently residing and said “the Phuket Fisheries Office has filed a case in Bangkok to determine where the crocodile should be sent to next looking at many factors including, food, safety and natural surroundings.”
The governor went on to explain that when he visited the animal it was tired and understandably stressed probably as a result of its new surroundings.
A specialist from Bangkok is due to visit the crocodile over the next few days to assess the reptile’s health. Once a decision on the crocodile’s health has been made the General Director of Fisheries Department will oversee a decision as to the crocodile’s next habitat.
Officials are also currently in the process of investigating where it might have come from to try and determine if the crocodile was from nature or owned by someone.
The governor has also instructed officials to closely monitor the area where it was found in case other crocodiles remain in the area.
