December was a bumper month for tourist arrivals according to the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Pongpanu Svetarundra, who announced arrivals set a new record high on the month of 3.5 million people arriving in the kingdom, who whilst here spent over 190 billion baht ($5.9 billion.)
The Permanent Secretary stated that over the course of 2017 the majority of travellers arriving were from East Asian countries, followed by people arriving from Europe, South Asia and the United States of America.
When looking at figures over the last couple of years 2017 saw an increase in tourist arrivals of 15.51 percent compared to 2016.
Results of a recently conducted survey into the Thai tourism industry found that 57 percent of foreign tourists were repeat visitors to the kingdom.
53 percent of people survey also revealed that Thailand was their only destination on their vacation and they were not traveling to other countries in the area.
