Department of Tourism to request 20 billion baht to improve tourist attractions

The tourism department here in Thailand is about to ask the Thai government for 20 billion baht to start two programmes to renovate and improve the nations emerging tourism sites.

Director General of the Department of Tourism Anan Wongbenjarat stated today that due to the increasing number of both foreign and Thai tourists visiting attractions all across the kingdom a burden is now being created on both the nation’s environmental resources as well as facilities currently in place so as a result improvements and renovations now need to be made.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has set the Department of Tourism the task of creating a rehabilitation program which encompasses encouraging tourists to visit grassroots areas of the kingdom while all the while ensuring that the sites are sustainable and that the communities around them are not adversely affected.

Following the Ministry of Tourism and Sports request the Tourism Department has drafted two proposals which would require a combined budget of 20 billion baht, the two proposals contain renovations and improvements to 2,639 projects.
