A senior government official announced yesterday (October 5) that a dinosaur fossil which they believe to be the biggest ever found in the kingdom has been unearthed in the Northeast region of the country.
Over 20 pieces of a dinosaur believed to be herbivorous has now been discovered after a villager discovered the first fossil last year in the Chaiyaphum province which is roughly 340 kilometres northeast of the nation’s capital.
Niwat Maneekut the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mineral Resources told reporters that the dinosaur is estimated to be roughly 100 million years old and they are of the opinion that it is the biggest ever found in Thailand.
He said that work is now underway to compare the species of dinosaur against others found in different countries.
At present they believe the species to be related to the Titan Dinosaur which had long front legs, he noted.
