In a joint effort by a team comprising of researchers, lecturers and students from the Department of Biology at Chulalongkorn University a new species of trapdoor spider has been discovered in Thailand.
The new species called the “Mae Wong trapdoor spider” also known as the Liphistius maewongensis is now the 96th species of trapdoor spider to be discovered and the 33rd to be found in the kingdom.
Natapot Warrit an advisor to the team that found the new species said that over 100 of the spiders were found by the team at the Mao Wong national park.
He said their nests are built cliffs at least 1000 metres above sea level.
