A mechanic has handed himself in to police after he posted footage online from a drone he was flying in the vicinity of the Air Force Base in Bangkok’s Don Muang district.
Jatupol Phodee, 37, claimed he only intended to take pictures of the view and not of the base.
He also claimed he was unaware of Thai authority’s ban which prohibits the use of drones within a nine-kilometre radius of the airport.
Having voluntarily handed himself in after the incident he was unable to convince officers he was merely trying to take pictures of the view with his recently purchased 8,000 baht gadget.
Officers accused Jatupol of intentionally using a wider angle that would picture the airport when flying the drone back in August before he uploaded the footage to social media.
Jatupol has since been remanded in custody pending trial after being charged with violating the Act on Certain Offences Against Air Navigation of 2015 and breaking the Confidential Information Act by photographing and distributing images of a protected location.
