Traffic officers in Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok have released results from their moves to prevent accidents involving motorcycles. They targetted drivers who were riding on pavements or heading in the wrong direction on the roads in the city.
In May and June alone, they caught over 4,000 traversing footpaths and almost the same figure again, driving against the flow of traffic on the wrong side of the road. The numbers were recorded by 88 police stations across the city, although Sukhumvit Road and Viphawadee Rangsit were targetted in particular.
Penalties dished out ranged from 400 to 1,000 baht.
But how about taking further action and confiscating and crushing the bikes? This would certainly make those riding motorbikes think before committing the offences. Or sell the vehicles and put the money to good causes.
Also, when will Pattaya’s police force take similar action and do something about the ongoing problems here.
