A herd of elephants wandered into oil palm plantations and orchards in Khao Chamao District on Sunday, damaging young trees in the process.
Around twenty wild elephants awakened farmers in the early hours of the morning as they rampaged through the trees.
Many small plantations and orchards had young trees, under two metres tall, uprooted by the elephants.
Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park’s Sampan Pholpho visited the area to inspect the damage. A decision was made to search for the rogue mammals to try and push them deeper into the forest.
Aid is expected to be given to the farmers to help cover the cost of the damage.
