According to government officials around 1 million people have signed up to the “Thai Niyom” project in its first day after it was launched by Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday.
The project which roughly translated means Thai way will include soldiers being dispatched to communities to disseminate the government’s social principles.
Speaking about the project the Interior affairs minister Anupong Paochinda said soldiers are being dispatched across the country to inform residents about the new project, he was unable to give a time frame as to how long this phase of the project might take.
He said that not including Bangkok around one million people have signed up to the project though he did not elaborate what data was used to support that figure.
The program was launched during the Prime Ministers visit to Nakhom Pathom on Wednesday and is being hailed by government officials as a new way of improving the nation’s economy and the standard of living for those here in Thailand.
The Prime Minister said he expects the new program to reach as many as 66 million people which is more or less the entire population of Thailand.
