Ex-Prisoners Describe There Experience In Thai Prison

Life in Thai prisons is rumored to be of a very poor standard, they are over populated, poor food rations, aswell as hygiene isn’t really taken into account.

If you want to take a shower, you will be given a container to fill up with water to wash yourself, and that’s with a group of people next to you.

Your meals will include some rice, soup or something similar, food can be sent to you by a family member or friend which is most prisoners preferred option as food is really poor, according to ex-prisoners.

After singing the national anthem in the morning, jobs will be assigned to you, this could involve you making food, cleaning or helping the guards in some way.

Visitors are allowed to come see you for around twenty minutes and talk to you behind bars Monday to Saturday.

It is possible to shower again but you have to return to your dormitory around 6pm, you can watch TV or read a newspaper, but by 9pm you will be asked to goto sleep.

Farangs will find it extra difficult in a Thai prison if they cannot speak good Thai, any requests made for medicine or materials will not be understood by guards as most them will not speak much English.

Living in terrible conditions such as these will certainly make you think twice about committing a crime or being a repeat offender.
