Anyone living in Pattaya, will be well aware that it is durian and rambutan season. There are pick-ups and street vendors all over the city selling the spiky fruits as Thais dash out in their droves to buy the delicacies.
Which is great news for the growers and sellers of course.
But there is even better news from the exporters of Thailand’s fruits as sales are expected to rake in 30 billion baht this year, according to the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE).
“2017 is the golden year for durian and rambutan, especially in the East of Thailand. Demand in the domestic and international markets has been high” OAE Secretary-General Jariya Sutthichaiya said.
The biggest importers are China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Vietnam. Durian sales are up by five billion baht compared to the same period last year.
Great news for the Thai economy and fruit producers.
