Famous Thai Beach to close to the Public to protect environment

According to reports one of Thailand’s most famous, perhaps the most famous beach thanks to the Leonardo Di Caprio movie the Beach is to close.

Maya Bay which is in Koh Phi Phi Leh will official close to visitors starting from June in an effort to reverse the environmental impact the mass number of visitors has had on the beach and the ecosystem.

Plans to close the beach were first proposed back in January, however the closure was officially confirmed to be happening yesterday in an announcement from the National Parks and Wildlife Department.

Officials estimate that on average 4,000 tourists visit the popular beach every day, the beach will remain closed until October, when it re-opens visitors will be limited to 2,000 per day.

It was noted that multiple beaches across the kingdom which are located inside of National Parks are often closed to the public between May and October each year.
