A large fire originating from a Chinese shrine in Bangkok’s Sathorn district spread to three adjacent shophouses before fire fighters were eventually able to get the blaze under control in the early hours of this morning.
Police stated that the fire originated at the Chinese shrine located on Soi Chan 43 Branch 9 at around 2:30am this morning.
After receiving reports of the fire a total of 10 fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze where after 40 minutes firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.
The shrine’s caretaker told officers that the shrine had just closed at 1:30am after a large number of people had come to pray as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
He told police he had made sure that all joss sticks and candles had been put out before locking up for the night.
Officers and firefighters are now investigating further to ascertain the cause of the fire which has caused significant structural and financial damage to the area.
