A temple in Ayutthaya has been heavily damaged after a fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning

The fire is reported to have started in a monks living quarters around 4am at the Wat Roi Rai in Ayutthaya’s Nakhon Luang district.

The blaze then quickly spread to the prayer hall by the time firefighters arrived, it then took them an hour before they had the fire under control.

The temple which was home to six months was decimated by the blaze and parts only have poles remaining.
