The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) is planning to build a new 50,000 seat capacity stadium, on the outskirts of Bangkok.
The president of FAT Pol Gen SomyotPoompanmoung said on July 26 that the new stadium is part of the association’s six part plan to improve Thailand’s footballers.
They plan to ask the Thai government for a piece of land to build the new stadium on, located around the outskirts of the nation’s capital.
The project will be proposed to FIFA within the next two years.
Though no timescale for the project has been set they plan to gain support from the private sector for the construction of the stadium.
The proposed new stadium will be different to the National Stadium as it will not have a running track and they plan to incorporate shopping facilities into the design.
The FAT currently does not have their own stadium, so when they organise international matches they have to rent stadiums to host games.
