Phuket tourist police have announced that a foreign couple escaped a dangerous crash that resulted on their sailing boat being impaled on rocks at Freedom Beach in Phuket after a storm last Wednesday (September 20.)
Officers identified the man as Russian national Viacheslav Vasilev, 63, but have yet to release the identity of the woman involved in the incident.
Officers are currently unaware as to the pair’s whereabouts or if they received any medical attention following the crash.
The captain of the Phuket Tourist Police said on Friday (September 22) that he was aware of the incident. He was quoted as saying “both foreigners are safe, be assured” however he did not divulge how he knew this.
When questioned on the incident he declined to give further details. Marine police also said that they were aware of the incident but said that they had no further details on the matter.
Both Karon and Patong police departments said they were unaware of any incident of a boat washing up on any rocks.
The location of the foreign couple is still unknown.
