The Thai army is set to bolster its already 12 strong squadron of Black Hawk helicopters with the acquisition of 4 more from the United States.
The announcement was made on Thursday by General Chalermchai Sittisart.
It will be the first time any military sale has happened between the two nations since the junta took power in 2014.
General Sittisart said with a total of 16 helicopters they would be able to transport a complete squadron of soldiers to any area of operation.
The acquisition of even more helicopters is expected following the annual budgets for 2017 to 2019.
The US Department of Defence aims to facilitate the sale of Arm, equipment, service and training to foreign governments.
