In announcement made yesterday by the Immigration Bureau at 11.30am they stated that Immigration police had arrested four Nigerian men for overstaying their tourist visas.

And charged each with being part of a criminal network carrying out romance scams here in Thailand.

The four men arrested were named as Egbain Andrew, Onwuemeru Elvis, Uchechukwu Benjamin Ejimadu and Ahamefula Chibuike Kali according to the Immigration police Chief Sutthipong Wongpin.

The arrests were the result of multiple complaints from a number of different Thai women who said they had been conned into transferring the men money, calling them “con-artists.”

The Chief alleged that the four men used photos of attractive white males as their Facebook profile pictures and attempted to engage Thai women in romantically related conversations.

After finding a target the men told the women that they had sent them expensive gifts but they would have to pay for them to clear customs, at this point a Thai accomplice would then soon after call the women pretending to be from a logistical company relating to the gifts and provide them with an account number to pay the money into.

Chief Suttipong said yesterday at the time of the press conference they were yet to apprehend the Thai accomplice.

Relating to the four men’s tourist visas the men had overstayed their visas by three to eight years.

The investigation is still ongoing.
