A German national was arrested after a reward was issued for his capture by the mayor of Krabi, Kiratisak Pukaoluan after discovering palm trees had been damaged in a public garden which is considered a city landmark in Krabi’s Muang district.
Mayor Kiratisak put up a 30,000 baht reward for information leading to the culprits arrest in a Facebook post made last Friday (December 22.)
The culprit soon identified as 50-year-old German man Bernd Roehrich was taken into custody on Monday, probably not how he envisioned spending Christmas day.
Officers said that the suspect confessed to damaging the palm trees in question and said he did so out of anger as his girlfriend had just broken up with him.
The suspect already has a record here in Thailand after renting a motorcycle and returning it with a gas tank filled with water.
Officers will now charge the tree destroyer with damaging public property.
