Thai authorities have urged people to wear retro Thai costumes during the Songkran New Year festivities.
The plea comes from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Culture, who wish to see both Thais and foreigners don traditional Thai clothing during the celebrations.
The campaign is in the first instance aimed at Thai people, who may be travelling home to be with their family to celebrate. It is believed the wearing of traditional clothing will improve the atmosphere of the festivities, plus making the event a more beautiful occasion.
It is difficult to put up an argument against that scenario, for the costumes are indeed stunning and attractive but will the population react to the request?
Those responsible for tourism in the Kingdom, will also arrange the Water Festival 2018 events in a variety of locations across the country from April 13th to the 15th.
In another organised event, the Ministry of Tourism will organise the Sport Accord Convention 2018, between April 15th and 20th. The event brings people together from 100 sports associations and will involve over 5000 people. The plan is to boost the economy and raise money for local villages.
We wish the organisers every success with all up and coming events
