A Chian Mai Grab Car driver has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female passenger.
The victim who described her attacker as “handsome” claims he was all over but the driver said he only “asked for a cuddle”.
Police said that drivers of Grab Car and Uber are not regulated and they do not undergo police checks before commencing work for the companies.
The teenager used the Grab app to summon a car on Monday. A Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by Jaran “Tel” Netawan, 26, arrived soon afterwards. The girl got in the front seat as Mr. Netawan, “chatted her up” but the girl said she felt safe.
She goes on to make allegations that the driver suddenly began grabbing her all over. She said she did not put up any resistance due to fearing for her safety. As soon as the journey was over, she informed her parents who informed the police.
The driver’s version is of course different. He claims the girl agreed to meet him for a night out but changed her mind. He asked for a cuddle and she agreed. He said he was baffled by the arrest.
The driver was charge and is awaiting trial.
Ladies travelling by taxi alone, should always travel in the back seat of a taxi or other service for their own safety.
