Grab Taxi will introduce “Grab Red Bus” next month, enabling customers to hire the songthaews via the smartphone app.
The red baht buses will be bookable for up to nine passengers across the city of Chiang Mai.
Once a pricing structure has been agreed, the buses will be available for customers to book and it has been approved by the Department of Land Transport.
Many taxi drivers are not in favour of apps like Grab Taxi but for customers, they are a fantastic way of booking your cab. You know the fare before you actually book it and you can see where your car is as it heads to your pick up point.
At the end of the journey, you are asked to review the driver with a star rating of one to five, one being the lowest.
It removes the annoying habit of drivers running without the meters on and asking for inflated prices, so from the customer’s point of view, it is a win, win situation.
Bangkok have plans to bring all taxis into a new app system soon, which will permit a number of benefits similar to those above for the customer but will include monitoring of driver behaviour.
It can only be for the betterment of those using taxis.
