Ill equipped thieves in Chang Mai ran out of gas mid robbery in their bid to cut open a SCB ATM containing 3 million baht.
The ATM in question was at a food centre in Mae Hia sub-district which the thieves attempted to rob on Sunday night.
After cutting through the outer casing of the ATM it appears the robbers ran out of gas before being able to cut through the safe, subsequently fleeing empty handed.
Police investigating the incident believe the thieves had been casing the location since the ATM was refilled with cash on Saturday.
They believe at least two people are involved and said that there were 13 working CCTV cameras in the area, so they are confident footage will lead to arrests.
Athithan Thamyutisat, 45, an employee from Siam Commercial Bank concurred with the police saying it appeared that the robbers ran out of gas attempting to break into the ATM’s safe.
