Following a meeting between Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor Development Committee a new high speed railway project has been given the green light to link three airports in the region.
The head of the committee Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said that it is his desire for members of the committee to focus on projects that are conceivable which are those that do not require changing government laws.
The committee has thus decided to conduct a four month study into expanding the EEC project by connecting the area with high speed railway lines and improve transport links to nearby borders, the findings of the study will be presented to the committee once the government passes the new EEC legislation bill.
During the meeting the committee also approved principles for a high-speed railway line linking three major airports in the area which are Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang and U-Tapao or Pattaya airport as it is also known, the railway was marked as one of five urgent projects which needed to be carried out under the EEC development objective.
