It was announced yesterday by Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor the Chief Executive of the government of China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)
That China will establish an economic and trade officer here in the kingdom in an effort to promote relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The plan was announced by the Chief Executive prior to an executive council meeting yesterday morning.
She said that this will be the third trade office Hong Kong has established in an ASEAN member state and would likely be set up in Bangkok.
The Chief Executive said that she had a meeting with Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha after both attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting of 2017 in Vietnam last week, discussing establishment of the trade office here in Thailand.
She noted that both China and Thailand want to have the office up and running as soon as possible.
