A huge marine turtle was found swimming up Bang Pakong River which is more than fifty miles from the coast.
Local residents from the district of Chachoengsao were the ones to rescue the lost turtle, which was then brought to the coastal research center for examination.
Sometimes Sea turtles mistake rivers for sea water from salt mixing in fresh water, once they realize they are not in the sea, they find it difficult to find there way back.
Luckily local residents rescued the turtle in time before any damage was done, if they are not in there natural habitat of sea water for a long period of time, it can have a damaging effect on there kidneys, this is because they are use to swimming in sea that has over twenty grams per litre, where as Bang Pakong River where she was found had very little.
The Veterinary doctor from the animal center completed health checks on the female turtle and gave it vitamins and medicine, the turtle is now healthy and ready to be set free.
