Manufacturers and importers of internet TV boxes such as Android, Apple TV and Media Box will have to apply for permission from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission before they can make their products available to customers.
For those who fail to do so and flaunt the law, well, they could face a maximum of two years in prison and/or a fine not exceeding two million baht.
With many expats living in Thailand, such news will not be greeted with glee.
Let’s hope those who provision such services meet the standards required and continue to supply foreign TV to those who enjoy watching their football or Coronation Street.
