Libong Island could soon be a “no fishing zone” if marine scientists get their way.

The island in Trang province, which has an abundance of seagrass could well become a conservation area to assist with the survival and growth of the dugong population.

The sea cows habitat has been depleted due to over fishing and climate change in recent years and researchers say that the area around Libong is ideal for the preservation of the creatures.

Seagrass is the main diet of the dugong
