In the wake of Sunday’s now-viral “fight” at a Full Moon Party on Phangan Island, which featured a local man violently smashing a glass bottle over a foreign woman’s head, the two Thai men involved have been charged with physical assault.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Apichart Boonsrirodj, commander of Surat Thani Provincial police, yesterday summoned the two men in the the video — Pitipat Sangkaha, 37, and the bottle smasher, Jarkkrit Jantasorn, 29 — for questioning at Koh Phangan police station.
A medical report from the hospital where the victim received care was also brought in as evidence.
Jakkrit stood by his story that the victim, identified only as a Portuguese national, and her friend were blocking the entrance to his pharmacy and refused to move even after he had already politely asked several times.
He claimed that it was the blonde woman who struck first by “trying to strangle him” — right after he made a verbal threat to soak them with water if they wouldn’t move.
Nevertheless, Jakkrit said he was sorry — kind of.
“I want to say sorry to fellow Thai citizens, especially Koh Phangan residents, that I damaged the island’s reputation,” Jakkrit told local media. “I take responsibility for hitting the woman, but you should know how the two foreigners really acted.”
You gotta love an apology where the assailant still manages to suggest that the woman he hit over the head with a bottle somehow had it coming. Get a publicist, Jakkrit, you are clearly out of your depth.
Meanwhile, the injured victim has reportedly already bounced, leaving for Dubai on Monday night, according to Thairath. When she sought help from police at Haad Rin beach, they sent her to the hospital and no police report was ever filed.
