MAN BUSTED FOR SELLING EAGLES ONLINE IN SAMUT PRAKARN

A man has been charged for illegal possession and selling the endangered eagles online in Samuk Prakarn last Saturday.

Authorities broke into the 29 year old males home and found 9 eagles trapped in baskets and tied up by there feet.

Police managed to track and identify him online as he was attempting to sell adult eagles for approximately thirteen thousand baht, and eaglets for around three thousand baht.

It is thought that if he was successful in selling these birds, he could of profited around fifty thousand baht.

The species which were collected from his house are known as a Changeable Hawk- Eagle, 7 Brahminy Kite- Eagles and a Blyths Hawk- Eagle. Unfortunately for the man arrested, the 3 species are protected and cannot be sold as it is illegal to have possession of them.

Eagles are one of the largest types of birds, you would normally find them nesting in tall trees or tropical forests. They are known to be very defensive when protecting there nests and the female hawks are known to be larger than the males.

He could be facing jail time of upto 4 years, or a forty thousand baht fine.
