The body of Narongsak Sangkharit is taken from the Kwai Noi River to a beach on Monday after he drowned on the previous day.

Divers have recovered the body of a man who apparently drowned while swimming across the Kwai Noi River on Sunday.

Narongsak Sangkharit’s body was found snared by a branch under the surface of the river following a second search for him. They had given up the night before as darkness fell in Kanchanburi’s Thong Pha Phum district.

The local mayor had authorised the temporary halting of discharging water in to the river from the Vajiralongkorn Dam to reduce the strong currents that were hampering the search bid.

Witnesses said that the 28-year-old had been on holiday with two friends. They had been swimming in the river when Narongsak tried to swim across the it. As the river levels rose and currents got stronger, two of the men managed to escape but the deceased never made it.

Warning signs had been posted warning swimmers to take care due to waters being released from the upstream dam said the mayor.

Following the recovery and identification of the body, it was sent for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
