AYUTTHAYA: One man was killed and another badly wounded when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on their car in Bang Pahan district early Thursday morning. Two other men in the car were unharmed.
The shooting occurred near kilometre marker 32 on northbound Asia Highway near a bridge across the Lop Buri River in tambon Ton Phor Samton, Pol Col Anek Pongsawat, chief of Bang Pahan police station, said. It was reported to police about 5am.
Police and rescue workers called to the scene found a black Toyota Vios parked in the left lane, on a corner, with four bullet holes in it.
The car driver, identified as Sunthorn Khaosamruang, 30, was seriously wounded, shot in the right chest. A passenger in the backseat was dead with gunshot wounds to the right side of his body. The dead man was later identified as Khawnchai Piamchai, 31.
The two other men, front seat passenger Thanaphat Suksompop, 24, and Santiparp Wangnok, 25, who was in the back, were both unharmed.
Police were told that men on a motorcycle opened fire on the car when it slowed down at a corner.
The dead man, Kwanchai, had quarrelled with his wife on Wednesday night. He then called his friends over to drink with him at the house, in Bang Pahan district. They left around 2am, going to a restaurant at Grand Ayutthaya market, in the same district.
While having a meal and drinks, one of them asked a young woman at a table next to them for her phone number. They left the restaurant about 4.30am, and were attacked shortly after.
Police were still questioning the survivors, and other witnesses. They also planned to examine recordings from closed-circuit cameras near the crime scene and at the restaurant.
