BEUNG KAN, 26th July 2018 (NNT)-Overnight rain has caused the water level in the Mekong River in Beung Kan province to rise continuously, resulting in other waterways overflowing and flooding rice paddies in the municipality.
The water level in the Mekong River has reportedly increased by 1.2 meters to 11 meters below the embankment. In addition to the rainfall, the already rising water levels in the river were made worse by the arrival of the water mass from the North of Thailand.
220 rai of farmland in three communities has been flooded as a result of the rising water levels in various waterways. Beung Kan Governor Nirat Phongsittithaworn has already instructed local authorities to survey the damage in the many flooded areas.
They are expected to update him on the flood situation daily until normal conditions are restored. Nirat also warned fishermen to be cautious if they go on fishing trips, due to strong currents in the river.
