It seems hundreds of long-tailed macaques are not a fan of the country’s current cooler weather with reports that they have left their usual perches in the trees at the national park in Amnart Charoen to sunbathe after temperatures fell as low as 10 degrees Celsius earlier this morning.
Large numbers of the long-tailed marsupials were reported to have been spotted lying beside the roadside warming themselves in the morning sunshine while others chose to huddle in groups clutching their young to stay warm.
Local residents said that the monkeys normally keep to the trees but the cooler temperatures had prompted them to seek the sun to keep warm.
It was reported that the temperature in the area was in the region of 10-12 degrees Celsius through the night and into the early part of this morning.
