A video viral earlier this week showing a mother and son unleashing a string of verbal abuse towards a traffic officer after he pulled the pair over for not wearing helmets on their motorcycle.
After a promise was made by the station chief to pursue the pair officers have caught up with them and the 19-year-old seen in the footage was fined a total of 9,200 baht for multiple charges.
The teen’s mother named only as Sarawan, 38, has been sentenced to a month in prison and fined 5,000 baht after a ruling by the criminal court.
The court issued reduced penalties as both confessed to their crimes.
The unnamed 19-year-old was fined 1,000 baht for not having a licence plate on his bike, 200 baht for not wearing a helmet, 500 baht for driving without a licence, 5000 baht and a one month prison sentence for defaming an officer and 2,500 baht for spitting at an officer.
His prison sentence was suspended for one year and he will be required to report to a probation officer every four months.
Sarawan’s prison sentence was suspended for one year.
