Tha Rua police have introduced a method of teaching traffic violators the rules of the roads by offering reduced fines if they sit an exam. The scheme is designed to increase their knowledge of road rules and safety.
Drivers who commit minor offences, have to participate and pass the test to obtain the reduced fine of 100 baht. This could mean saving up to 90% in fines.
The test includes 30 multiple choice questions regarding basic traffic laws. To pass they must answer at least 24 correctly.
But in a twist, only motorists who have committed up to four minor traffic offences with maximum fines not exceeding 1,000 baht will be allowed to sit the test.
The scheme is only awarded for minor offences such as not wearing a crash helmet, not carrying your licence or using a mobile phone whilst driving.
