Muay Thai fighter becomes monk in honour of late beloved King

Popular Muay Thai fighter Buakaw Banchamek, was ordained at a temple in Bangkok yesterday morning with the intent to remain a monk for a period of nine days out.

In front cheering fans and family the 35-year-old fighter took part in a hair-shaving ceremony and was ordained at the Bang Waek Temple in Phasi Charoen.

The newly ordained monk released a Facebook statement asking for forgiveness from those who he has wronged, which is a tradition undertaken by those entering monkhood.

The Thai fighter’s actions were massively praised by the Thai online community with many calling him a great athlete with a good heart.
