Researchers at the Naresuan University have announced that they have developed a mango that reduces the risk of contracting certain types of cancers.
The breakthrough was funded by the Thailand Research Fund under the Royal Golden Jubilee PhD Programme.
Dr Peerasak Chaiprasart said that the mangos are enhanced with anti-oxidants anthocyanin and carotenoid.
Anthocyanin has been found to slow cell degeneration and reduce the risk of heart disease while carotenoid strengthens the immune system and reduces the risk of several types of cancer.
Peerasak said the mango they developed the “Mahachanok mango” is a hybrid made by combining a Thai Nang Klang Wan mango and an Australian Sunset mango.
He also said that the mangos are capable of growing outside of the normal April-June growing season so farmers will benefit from extra harvests.
Researchers at the same university also developed a woman’s roll on deodorant that removes hair.
