Nasa the United States space agency is offering two Thai students one male and one female the chance of winning an astronauts scholarship.
Now in its second year the US embassy in Bangkok teamed with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and other partners announced yesterday the Discover Thailand’s Astronauts Scholarship Program 2017.
The winners of the prestigious scholarships will get an introduction to space over a six day program held at the US Space & Rocket Centre in Alabama.
Glyn T Davis the US ambassador to Thailand stated that the scholarship would further strengthen relations between the two nations in the fields of technology and science.
Applicants for the scholarship must be between the ages of 14 and 18 and will be required to answer 100 English-language questions on subjects including science, engineering and mathematics.
21 applicants with the highest scores will be shortlisted for a final evaluation at a three day camp in KMITL, where one boy and girl will be selected for the scholarship based on votes from their peers and referees in attendance.
Applications for the scholarship can be made until October 15 at www.spacecampthailand.com and the application fee costs 500 baht, the initial test will take place on October 22.
A representative at the US Space & Rocket Centre, Krit Kunplin, said winners of the scholarship might have the chance to fly to mars as NASA is currently planning a mission there in the near future.
