August was obviously a good month to start a business in Thailand as a four-year record was set for the number of businesses registered in a month.
According to the Department of Business Development 7,159 new business were registered throughout the month of August, which was a 15% increase compared to the same month in 2016.
Up until the start of September the total number of new businesses registered in Thailand totalled 49,080, which is an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2016.
Experts estimate that the total number of new businesses opened in 2017 will reach 66,000 with the increase being attributed to investors and businessmen’s growing confidence in the Thai economy’s recovery and the government’s investment in infrastructure especially in areas like Bangkok and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), as well as the nation’s growing tourism industry.
The five most registered types of business in August were real estate, building contractors, transportation, management consultancies and restaurants and shops.
Something to consider if you’re think about starting a new business.
