New historical Thai romcom causes a surge in tourism numbers

According to local authorities in Ayutthaya city is experiencing a surge in tourists visiting historical sites in the area and they are attributing the increased numbers to a new historical romcom which is taking Thailand by storm after using several locations to film the series.

Officials announced today that historical tourist attractions used to film “Bupphesaniwat” (love destiny) have had nearly triple the amount of people visiting them since the show began airing last month.

Ayutthaya Governor Sujin Chaichumsak said that normally Wat Chaiwatthanaram a location used on the show receives around 3,000 visitors per weekend, since the show hit Thai TV screens that number has skyrocketed to over 9,000 per weekend.

The show is set in 1682 during the reign of king Narai and follows a female archeology student that travels back in time to a previous life.

The show has been gripping the kingdom since it aired with many Thai people using the #Bupphesanitwat on twitter which is now trending.

So don’t be surprised if your Thai wife or girlfriend starts planning a trip to Wat Chaiwatthanaram in the near future, don’t worry entrance won’t break the bank the fee is 10 baht for Thai nationals and 50 baht for foreigners.
