The Department of Land Transport has announced that from September 4 Thailand’s paper licenses will be replaced with new smart cards
The new format licenses will contain magnetic strips and QR codes to help guard against fake licenses.

Names on the license will be printed in both Thai and English enabling the holder to drive legally in any Asean country.
The old paper form license will cease to be issued from August 15.
