The deadline has past and Facebook is still available.
Yes the government’s warning that they would shut Facebook down if the company did not remove 131 links, deemed to contain inappropriate content has come to nothing.
The Thai Internet Service Provider Association said the Thai government were pressurising them into shutting down access to Facebook, should the social media giant not take the required action.
Facebook has of course tried to accommodate the request by already removing 178 URLs but 131 are still actively available.
The authorities could prevent users accessing Facebook by blocking all content but that would have huge repercussions from the general public. There would be uproar if the government were to undertake such action.
So what now? Let’s home common sense prevails and the two parties sit down and discuss in a rational manner, to find a solution.
