Following the announcement that smoking is to be banned on 20 beaches across Thailand from November 1 many believed a sign being erected on Hau Hin Beach which is one of the 20 beaches would be to outline the smoking ban, however officials had a different purpose in mind.

The sign which is positioned near the Centara Hotel informs beach goers that drinking or distribution (sale) of alcohol is forbidden on the beach.

The sign which media believe to have been put in place yesterday (October 16) has the moniker of the Prajuab Khitikhan provincial police force but does not stipulate any fine or punishment for those caught violating the no drinking rule.

The new smoking ban coming into force on November 1 reportedly carries harsh punishments for violators of 1 year in prison and or a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
