There will be an increase in civil servant roles for doctors, nurses and dentists as the Cabinet approved the Public Health Ministry’s request for more positions to be made available.
Almost 11,000 positions for nurses were granted along with 2000 doctors and 600 dentists.
At present there is 2,200 vacant nursing positions but a further 9000 will be created over the coming three years.
The move follows threats of strike action from temporary employed nurses who are waiting to become civil servants.
A request to create new positions for pharmacists was rejected until a survey was completed at the request of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha
