An overweight primate has been put on a strict diet after examinations proved that it was not suffering from a large tumour, which was at first suspected.
The long-tailed macaque has been called “Lung Ou-an” (Uncle Fatty) by locals in Bangkok but could soon have a new epithet if its diet goes to plan.
The ten-year-old monkey is grossly overweight and suffering from high cholesterol levels in its blood.
Weighing in at 15 kilograms, Uncle Fatty will now be fed twice per day with a maximum of 400 grams of monkey cuisine each day.
It has been examined thoroghly since its capture in the vicinity of Khun Kala Floating Market back in April but many of the test results are still pending.
We hope Uncle Fatty makes a full recovery.
Long-tailed macaques can live up to 30 years of age.
