Officers in Bangkok arrested a young American couple at their hotel following a viral video which showed them ‘tagging’ phone booths and electricity poles in Silom Road with a green paint pen on Wednesday.
Once police in Bangkok became aware of the video posted by Vorathep Charoenpornpanich, which was around 4pm on Wednesday they began an investigation and learnt that the pair were staying at a hotel on Surawong Road not far from the scene of the crime on Silom Road.
Officers went to the hotel on Thursday and arrested both Braizer Bruce, 29 and Joness Ristin, 22 (the spelling of both names has been taken from the pronunciation of their names by an officer at a press conference.)
Both were taken to the Thung Mahamek police station where they were fined the combined total of 5,000 baht.
A press conference was later held by the deputy tourist police commissioner, Maj-General Surachet Hakpal who said he had sternly reprimanded both tourists.
General Surachet stated that both tourists said they were sorry for their actions and said they just did it for kicks.
Comments flooded in online once the video was uploaded to Facebook with many calling for harsher punishments such as blacklisting from the country
