Officials announced that due to severe flooding Nakhon Sri Thammarat airport had to close yesterday and is not expected to re-open until Saturday at the earliest due to the heavy downpour which hit the area.
The announcement came after flooding engulfed one of the runways leading to electrical and system damage.
The director of the airport, Suksawat Sukwanno stated that runway No. 19 was flooded resulting in electrical and navigational systems going completely offline.
He said that if the rain stops and the flooding subsides the airport might re-open on Saturday.
Nakhon Sri Thammarat is located in the South of the kingdom and the province has been heavily affected by the monsoon storms which have caused flash flooding and mass damage.
